The vision was given to Ryan Hildebrand from God many years ago - to build a community of believers. When he had almost forgotten about it, God made it all happen in the summer of 2016. Not even looking for it, the big white house on the corner of 27th and Sacramento caught Ryan's attention one day as he drove by. That house was soon to become Mission House Covenant Community. Ryan, his wife Kim, his daughter Courtney, and friend Owen are the original founders of MHCC. By August of 2016 it was apparent that housing people who find themselves in a homeless or struggling situation was God's call for the Mission House. From then to August of 2019, MHCC has housed over 41 people and has assisted 100's more in the St. Joseph area with the help and support of their community. MHCC became a 501(c)3 non-profit in May of 2018 and officially became Mission House Covenant Community Life Restoration Center Inc. While Courtney and Owen have moved on in their lives to new adventures, jobs and locations, Ryan and Kim run the daily operations at MHCCLRC.
We are simply a few Christians who took the words of Jesus seriously. The call of Christ is to abandon self and all possessions and offer all we have to His service. This is, by the way, the call to all who want to follow Him. Here are just a few scriptures:
Luke 12:32-34 New King James Version (NKJV)
32 “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luke 14:25-27,33 New King James Version (NKJV)
25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.
Matthew 10:34-39 New King James Version (NKJV)
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his ownhousehold.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
Matthew 16:24-26 New King James Version (NKJV)
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Matthew 19:27-29 New King James Version (NKJV)
27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.
Acts 4:32-35 New King James Version (NKJV)
32 Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. 34 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your bodyand in your spirit, which are God’s.
